    DEI High-Temp Silicone Coating™ FAQ

What is the purpose of using HT Silicone Coating™?
HT Silicone Coating has several beneficial purposes on header wraps and metal surfaces. When applied to an exhaust wrap it increases the wraps thermal isolation and resistance. The silicone agent bonds to the surface of the wrap and increases its integrity which reduces the need to re-wrap headers or piping, just re-apply HT Silicone Coating™ routinely. HT Silicone can also be applied to a prepped metal surface where wrapping is improbable. Because HT Silicone Coating™ is silicone based it also can repell water, dirt and oils from any surface. This is especially usefull on header wrap as keeping it free of debris lessens wear and increases it's durability.

What else can HT Silicone Coating™ be used for?
Wherever metal heat absorbtion may exist! The intended use for this product is on header wrap as mentioned above, but HT Silicone Coating™ may also be applied to bare metal headers, exhaust pipes, manifolds, engine blocks, heads, valve covers, oil pans, transmission or rear-end housings, differential covers, brake calipers and even on your barbeque grill.

What temperature can HT Silicone Coating™ withstand?
HT Silicone Coating will effectively withstanding 1500 degees and provide added style.

How is HT Silicone Coating™ applied?
For header wraps it is recommended that HT Silicone be applied in several light coats for optimal thermal performance and cleanliness. For bare metal surfaces it is recommended that the surfaces be properly prepared before applying.

    The Q&A on this Product
QUESTION:  How much of an advantage can you see from wraping the piping and shooting it with a coat of black, Turbocharger piping? How much heat will it reduce do you know?
ANSWER:  The color of the coating does not affect its performance. A coating is necessary because if water gets into the wrapping (and water WILL get into the wrapping), it deteriorates when high heat is applied - think "tiny steam explosions" - they look really ragged after repeated wet-dry cycles. We used to use hi-temp paint, but the hi-temp silicone spray is a superior solution to seal your exhaust wrap (better penetration). It is impossible to quantify how much this reduces heat - it will be an extraordinary difference from what you have now. The exact numbers are completely dependent on hundreds of complex factors. If you are trying to protect external components or increase power output, this solution will give you both!
QUESTION:  I have duals and larger piping on a 4 banger so the exhaust temps dont exactly remain high like they're supposed to. I intend to do the wrapping from the cat on back. Would the overall effect be better if i spray the bare pipe, wrap the pipe, then spray again? or should i just wrap the pipe then spray?
ANSWER:  There is no significant advantage to appyling hi-temp coating to an exhuast system before wrapping. If you warap the pipe with moistened wrap, make sure that you completely dry the wrap, then apply two coats of HT Silicone, letting the first coat dry completely before second application.
QUESTION:  I just wrapped my pipes and it turned out great . Before I spray on the silicone will it absorb through the wrap onto the pipes ? If so will it come off if I were to decide to remove the wrap later on ?
ANSWER:  This product will not harm your pipes in any way. It will not accumulate on the pipe through the wrap. It may be removed with solvents, just check the label on the can.
QUESTION:  Hello. If using on bare metal surfaces, what kind of prepping does it need for best and long lasting result? Also, how Long does it typically last before needing reapplication? Thank you.
ANSWER:  Remove all rust and clean thoroughly, with a final degreasing using rubbing alcohol. The coating will last indefinitely unless damaged by direct hard contact.
QUESTION:  I purchased Item no. 10301 as I will be wrapping a portion of my 2/1 pipes on my motorcycle with black exhaust tape that I also bought from you. Does this coating go on the pipes itself or is it to be applied over the tape as well?
ANSWER:  I would use it on any extremely hot surface where I wanted it to be protected from dirt, water, and grease. It is perhaps at its best on the surface of the exhaust wrap, but works virtually anywhere.
QUESTION:  Hi. I'm intending to wrap over some older (Triumph) pipes that are chromed with small surface rust spots. Do I need to completely strip the chrome off for the silicone coating to do any good? It's best to use it under and on top of the wrap, correct? Do you have a spray that matches the tan wrap? Thanks, Matt Weaver
ANSWER:  The Aluminum color spray goes with the tan wrap. You don't have to strip off the chrome.
