Advanced Technology Creates Quieter, Longer Lasting Disc Brake Pads.
Positive Mold Technology — During the manufacturing process, a piston
drives down into the mold cavity applying precise pressure and heat directly
onto the friction material. This creates better density of material and a longer
lasting pad. A PMT pad’s shear strength is 400 times stronger than a riveted pad.
Due to the use of this specific process, the friction material can be a “dry
mix”, therefore requiring 50% less resin* in the formula. Less resin means
no cracking, less fade, and a noise free, longer lasting pad life.
*When the brakes are applied during driving, the friction material heats up. This heat
causes the resin in the pad to release a gas that leads to brake fade.
Constrained Layer Shims are the only proven method of noise reduction;
and your best defense against brake noise. That’s why they’re used by KEM
and OE manufacturers. Two layers of steel surround a visco-elastic sound
dampening wafer. During operation, the metal layers move at different rates,
and this micro-movement allows the visco-elastic layer to absorb the vibrational
energy and dampen noise.
Other manufacturers use an insulator technology, where a shim is simulated
as part of the backing plate. This method leads to plate flexing, separation of
friction material and uneven rotor wear. KEM Friction Pro brake pads with factory-
attached, non-migrating shims, absorb and dissipate heat away from the
friction material, control vibration and dampen noise to inaudible sound levels.
